Moab, UT - Arches & Canyonlands Parks

This has been a fun-filled 3 days.  Moab is a great town full of interesting people and things to do.  It is a combination of yuppies & cowboys, environmentalists and artists.  Lots of fun stores and restaurants too.  Carole got all excited when she thought she had found a Dessert Deli -- what a disappointment when we got there!

There are a lot of petroglyphs and some dinosaur tracks in the area.

Our caravan started the right way - with root beer floats, orientation, dinner and a cruise on the Colorado River!   We couldn't take pictures on the actual cruise but it was wonderful to be on the river hearing the history, seeing the sights and as it got dark seeing a light show on the cliffs.  I think there are more stars out here then anywhere else!!

Saturday started early (OK it was 8am, but that is early to me!!) We all went on a bus to Arches National Park.  I could write a hundred words and show you a hundred pictures but it would not do justice to the amazing landscape and rock formations.  This is the second time I have been there and again I was in total awe.  To everyone who has not been there, be sure to put it on your "bucket list".

After lunch at the campground we again boarded the bus to go to Canyonlands National Park.  Totally different landscape but equally inspiring.  The afternoons here get quite hot (in the 90's) and as the day progressed I was less than enthusiastic about getting off the somewhat air-conditioned bus to walk to another breath-taking vista.

We then went to Dead Horse State Park where the most exciting thing we saw was the cliff where "Thelma & Louise" drove their car off at the end of that movie.  Don't get me wrong, there were wonderful canyon panoramas but by this time all I wanted wa a cold Marguerita and to put my feet up on the couch.  Sightseeing as a senior is a whole lot different!!  I've discovered driving by in the cool car, sticking my camera out the window and saying ah-a-a, satisfies me as much as hiking miles in the back country.
