Scenic Drive from Torrey,UT thru Escalante National Monument

Today's report will be from two different perspectives. Mine first (I was driving) and then Melodie's (she was hanging out the window taking pictures). We first stopped at the Anasazi State Park Museum in Boulder,UT. Very interesting museum with an actual dig site.  The Anasazi lived here beginning at least 5,000 years ago and had a highly developed culture.

We then continued down "scenic" highway 12 thru Escalante National Monument. (In all fairness we had been warned to expect curvy roads and steep grades). It took us about 2 hours to complete the drive (at 25mph) and I have never in all of my RV driving days been so !!!!!scared. I required assistance to pry my fingers from the steering wheel. Melodie kept ranting and raving about the outstanding views (I didn't take my eyes off of the white sideline and the edge of the road). I had to look at her pictures (after a beer) to see what I had missed. Anyway we made it safely to the next campground. Next time SHE DRIVES!!!!

It was very difficult to take good pictures while Carole was twisting, turning and going downhill at tremendous grades.  I hope you can sympathize with me!!  The following are examples of the turns, road hazards and views we saw.

Notice how the road falls away on each side!

The turns are tight!

And there were many, many of these hazards on the whole trip!

But it was all worth it for views like these ...

Just ask Carole!!!!
