Zion National Park

We had a day long bus trip to Zion yesterday.  Our guide has grown up in this area and has been a guide for 16 years.  He and his family own the RV park we are staying at and his cute 9-year-old daughter came along too.  Zion is very solid!  The cliffs are tall and the rock looks like granite even though it still sandstone.  (I know that all sounds strange!)  Well, let me just include a few pictures...

Although it looks solid there is much more water in the area and it even seeps through some of the rocks.  Here is a picture of the Weeping Rock.

Another feature  of Zion is the mile long tunnel built through the mountain.  Below are pictures of the tunnel entrance and one of the openings cut out of the side to give air and a small amount of light to the tunnel.

Another feature is a crosshatching carved on some of the mountain caused by changing winds and water.  It is called Checkerboard Mesa.

We even saw a Big Horn Sheep and his wife on the way back down, but couldn't get the camera shot fast enough.  It was another wonderful day.
